Directive on Offensive, Insulting or Abusive Language and/or Gestures

Attn: Parents/Guardians and Spectators of the Hanwell Youth Sports Program

The image of our multi-sport organization is critical to participant retention and its appeal to prospective and interested families.

As such, the Rural Community of Hanwell is implementing a directive of ZERO-TOLERANCE for offensive, foul, or abusive language and/or gestures towards coaches, teammates, and on occasion, referees, whether directed towards an individual or not.

The above also applies to spectators, or anyone in the vicinity of a sporting field in the Rural Community of Hanwell.

Participants in the Hanwell Sports program may be given one verbal warning from accredited volunteer coaches or staff on their offensive, insulting, or abusive language and gesture(s). A warning should be received in writing to the Director of Recreation & Parks for proper filing. On the second warning, the guilty participant will forfeit the rest of their season without remuneration. The resulting forfeiture of playing time will be communicated to the guilty party and family in writing from the Chief Administrative Officer.

If offensive, insulting, or abusive language and/or gesture is issued toward a player, coach, or staff member of the Rural Community of Hanwell, from a spectator or individual in the vicinity of the sports field, they must exit the field of play and the technical area.

The ZERO-TOLERANCE for offensive, foul, or abusive language is MANADATORY for all coaches, players, and spectators. Volunteer coaches and Rural Community of Hanwell staff members MUST apply it in all sports and divisions. That is, in every Hanwell Sports session you attend, you must deal with this policy and the consequences outlined.
